Night of Power - Wikipedia
In Islamic belief, the Laylat al-Qadr (in Arabic: لیلة القدر), the Shab-e Qadr (in Persian: شب قدر), lit. 'the Night of Power, the Night of Destiny, the Night of Decree, the Night of Determination, or the Precious Night' is the night when Muslims believe the Quran was first sent down from Heaven to the world
BLACK AMERICA JOURNEY BACK TO ISLAM (previously Sankofa Spirit).
"THE FAMILY ORIGINATES IN THE INSTITUION OF MARRIAGE, AND EXIST NOT WITHOUT IT."
(excerpt taken from) THE AMERICAN SLAVE CODE. Ch. 8. "Slaves Could Not Constitute Families."
"One Should Remember The Past To Make Positive Progress In The Future." Particular focus will be on chattel slavery and Jim Crow in the US. The savage history of Chattel Slavery and Jim Crow has had detrimental impact on the Black American Family on six levels of wellness: 1) Mental, 2) Spiritual. 3)Emotional. 4) Physical. 5) Social. 6)Environmental. We descendants of those ancestors who were enslaved must be proactive in our healing and the reinstituting of our families, AND unapologetic about it. Ma Sha Allah (we submit our will to Allah), in guiding us along the right path, the true path to Islam.

Governors Shutdown Schools Over Ramadan Fasting comment : ArabCritic : Oh, man. There is so much to say about this topic. 1) Ramadan is approximately one month long. There's less than a week left in the holy month. Why did this video come out late? 2) As a Muslim man I agree. I read an article about this and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) said that the region has high level of poverty and illiteracy, which makes taking five weeks off, "counterproductive." You can do things to make it easier on the children so they wouldn't have to suffer in the heat, like no intense physical exercise during fasting or studying in cool/shaded indoor classrooms. 3) The one thing I disagree with this reporter about is when she said "well, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates don't do it." Don't look to other countries to develop your own policies. Let me tell you why: A) The US claims it's a "secular" nation but takes mandatory time off during Christmas (a Christian holiday) and most of the kids here AND adults in the US are ignorant and uneducated. B) Most Muslims (and Arabs) do not look to the governments of Saudi Arabia or UAE for Islamic advice. My mom has told me many times that the royal families in countries like Saudi Arabia do non-Islamic things, including drinking alcohol, partying, etc. And look at Dubai. You think people go to Dubai to have the Muslim experience? Of course not. It doesn't even look Arab. It's a western facade in the Middle East meant to invite and allow westerners and western dollars. Muslims look at both in disgust.

Concerns rising amid Voice of America employees placed on leave Story by Baileigh Bockover
GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Employees at the Voice of America (VOA), the federally funded international media network, have been placed on administrative leave ahead of President Donald Trump’s signed executive order.
The VOA transmission site is in eastern Pitt County. How many employees are based at the Edward R. Murrow transmitting station on VOA Site B Road is unknown.
Trump signed an executive order last week to cut several federal agencies, including one overseeing VOA. VOA broadcasts in over 40 languages online, on radio, and on television. Concerns are rising about potential job cuts and the impact on local communities.
According to NBC News, the order represents the latest step by Trump to remake the federal bureaucracy, a task he has largely put in the hands of tech billionaire, Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency.
Currently, in Eastern North Carolina there are three VOA sites, with site B (near Beaufort/Craven line) being the only one actively broadcasting 24/7. Site A (across the Beaufort County line), owned by the NC Wildlife Resources Commission and known as the VOA Game Land, is not active in Beaufort County. Site C was sold to East Carolina University in 2001 and is now part of their West Research Campus, according to the NC Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
Dismantling VOA could lead to dominance of anti-U.S. propaganda, director says Story by Nancy Cordes

Washington — President Trump's dismantling of the government-funded Voice of America will pave the way for America's adversaries to have greater influence abroad, predicted the agency's director Michael Abramowitz.
After Mr. Trump signed an executive order that seeks to make sweeping cuts at the nation's largest international broadcaster, about 1,300 employees, including Abramowitz, learned over the weekend they had been placed on administrative leave, and another 500 contractors were terminated. Mr. Trump accused the news agency, which began broadcasting during World War II, of spreading "radical propaganda."
In an interview with CBS News Monday, Abramowitz called VOA "an incredibly important soft power tool" for the U.S. and said shuttering it would be a "self-inflicted blow" to national security because VOA's news coverage helps to combat Chinese, Russian and Iranian disinformation.
"If America pulls off the playing field and cedes it to our adversaries, then they're going to be telling the narratives that people around the world are going to be hearing, and that can't be good for America," he said. "They're going to be hearing an anti-America narrative. We need to fight that with truth."
VOA reports news about the U.S. in nearly 50 languages — with much of its focus trained on countries that lack a free press. By law, the broadcasts do not air inside the U.S., but news programming is viewed widely — with an audience of about 360 million people per week worldwide.
"We are getting through to an audience that might otherwise hear propaganda," Abramowitz said, adding that many VOA journalists are from countries under authoritarian control. "The major challenge for the United States in general is this global information war in which countries like China and Russia are essentially really having our lunch. … So, I really feel that we need an organization that is accurate, unbiased, objective, and that tells the truth about America to the rest of the world in the languages that they understand."
"That has never been more important with a sea of lies and disinformation that are going on around the world," he added.
Still, Abramowitz acknowledged that VOA, which has a $270 million annual budget, could be reformed and that it should "not be resistant to change."
"I'm not saying it has to be the way it's always been," Abramowitz said. "Change is great. Change is needed. Change is required."
"I don't personally think it's a waste of taxpayer money," he argued. "Does that mean that it has to be a $270 million budget? Maybe it could be [$240 million], maybe it could be [$200 million]. Look, we are in an era where the taxpayer expects a smaller, more modernized, more streamlined government."
He defended VOA's journalists as non-partisan and said if they harbored any bias, it is against totalitarianism, tyranny and authoritarianism.
"If you care about a free Iran, if you care about more openness in China, if you care about freedom in Russia, if you care about freedom in Venezuela and Nicaragua, then you have an incredibly important tool in VOA to help push back and to get accurate and objective information into these places that don't have it," he said. "That is incredibly important."

Charles III reveals the names of his favorite singers, and it's surprising
This Monday, March 10, the crowned head of England, Charles III, took advantage of Commonwealth Day to announce the launch of his podcast "The King's Music Room", recorded at Buckingham Palace.
That's it, Charles III's musical favorites are now on Apple Music. Kylie Minogue, RAYE, Beyoncé..., but also Bob Marley, Diana Ross and Grace Jones: the King of the United Kingdom's playlist is characterized by its great eclecticism.
In "The King's Music Room", we learn, in particular, that the British sovereign is a particular fan of Beyoncé (Queen B) who, according to him, is "incomparable". It should be noted that several events have already brought the two personalities together, including concerts organised for the King's Trust (a charity that helps young people in difficulty)."Throughout my life, music has meant a lot to me. I know that this is also the case for many others. She has this remarkable ability to bring back happy memories from the depths of our memory, to comfort us in moments of sadness and to take us to distant lands," says Charles III. He added: "But perhaps above all, it can lift our spirits to such an extent, especially since it brings us together in a celebration. In other words, it brings us joy."

Who is Prof. Alioune Badara Kandji, the new Rector of UCAD?
Thursday, March 6, 2025
The Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD) has a new Rector. He is Prof. Alioune Badara Kandji. This specialist in English literature was, until his appointment, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities (Flsh).
Prof. Alioune Badara Kandji, Dean of the Faculty of Letters and Humanities (Flsh), is the new Rector of Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD). He was appointed this Wednesday at the weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers by the President of the Republic following a call for candidates. He replaces Prof. Aminata Niang Diène who was Acting Rector following the departure of Prof. Ahmadou Aly Mbaye last September.
Mr. Kandji is a specialist in English literature. He has a rich academic and administrative career within the Flsh.
Between 2012 and March 2025, he was in turn head of the English department, assessor of the Flsh, Acting Dean and Dean since 2021.
From February 2019 to January 2020, Alioune Badara Kandji was president of the Research Commission of the Flsh of the Ucad.
On March 5, the Flsh organized its traditional back-to-school drink, in the presence of the Acting Rector, Prof. Aminata Niang Diène. According to an information note, it was an opportunity to honor retirees, to celebrate excellence through the promoted at Cames but also to welcome new recruits in the friendship and cordiality that are the basis of relations in the university.
This meeting, it is specified, is also the time to take stock of the pedagogical situation of the faculty. The Dean, Prof. Alioune Badara Kandji said that all the exams of the normal session have been done and the deliberations and results available on the blogs of the various departments. Mr. Kandji said that the remedial sessions are scheduled for the coming days. In other words, the faculty is in the process of turning the corner and making up for lost time. "It is therefore a real pleasure for me to be the Dean, rather a member of this family who has shown resilience," added Prof. Kandji. He praised the efforts made by all the components and the solidarity they have shown. The Dean also welcomed the results obtained at Cames by the faculty's teacher-researchers. Indeed, it is specified, the 15 assistant professors and the 22 lecturers presented to the Cames aptitude lists did 100% against 90% among full professors. "These results reflect the efforts of the recipients, but also the efforts of the faculty to support teaching and research," he says. But he noted that the results could have been better if the reforms of Cames had not "disoriented many colleagues". Aliou KANDElesoleil.sn
