Governors Shutdown Schools Over Ramadan Fasting comment : ArabCritic : Oh, man. There is so much to say about this topic. 1) Ramadan is approximately one month long. There's less than a week left in the holy month. Why did this video come out late? 2) As a Muslim man I agree. I read an article about this and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) said that the region has high level of poverty and illiteracy, which makes taking five weeks off, "counterproductive." You can do things to make it easier on the children so they wouldn't have to suffer in the heat, like no intense physical exercise during fasting or studying in cool/shaded indoor classrooms. 3) The one thing I disagree with this reporter about is when she said "well, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates don't do it." Don't look to other countries to develop your own policies. Let me tell you why: A) The US claims it's a "secular" nation but takes mandatory time off during Christmas (a Christian holiday) and most of the kids here AND adults in the US are ignorant and uneducated. B) Most Muslims (and Arabs) do not look to the governments of Saudi Arabia or UAE for Islamic advice. My mom has told me many times that the royal families in countries like Saudi Arabia do non-Islamic things, including drinking alcohol, partying, etc. And look at Dubai. You think people go to Dubai to have the Muslim experience? Of course not. It doesn't even look Arab. It's a western facade in the Middle East meant to invite and allow westerners and western dollars. Muslims look at both in disgust.
